Magnificat is sung in Latin. The text of the Magnificat is taken from taken from Luke’s Gospel (1:46-55). The text is the Blessed Virgin Mary’s hymn of praise to the Lord. It is also known as the Canticle of Mary in the Liturgy of the Hours, a special collection of scripture readings, psalms, and hymns that constitute what is known as the prayer of the church

Magnificat is written for SATB chorus with piano accompaniment. This meditative setting of this text, is perfectly suited for the more advanced ensemble. The unison melodic passages create a sense of simplicity, meditativeness and contemplation. Whilst the colourful chordal structures in the work, found both in the chorus and the accompaniment, creates the majesty and showcase any ensembles ability.
