An orphaned teenage girl elopes with a man and moves with him to a town in Pretoria called “Marabastad”. The villagers, where she comes from, hear the news, and is concerned about her and seeks to find out if she is alright. When they get there, they advise the man, and plead with his family, to take care of her because she has no parents. As per South African tradition the man is required to pay a fine for not following the correct procedure of Labola, thus he has to slaughter a cow for the elders.
