Description
Charlotte Botha is the Director of Choral Activities at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, where conducts the College Choir and the Hamilton Voices choregie ensemble. She teaches music theory and social justice musicology. During her choral conducting DMA at the University of North Texas, she served as conductor of the Women’s Chorus, assistant conductor of the University Singers, and assistant conductor of the Dallas Symphony Chorus. Charlotte’s tenure as conductor of the Drakensberg Boys Choir solidified her passion for making music with and composing for young singers. She has performed and presented workshops around the globe, most notably as a member of the World Youth Choir alumni group TIME Ensemble. Her research interests include choral text-painting and equitable practices for including the music of and by marginalized members of the music community in choral programs. Charlotte’s MMus from Nelson Mandela University and her BMus is from the University of Pretoria.
Award-winning composer, Pieter Bezuidenhout has come to be considered as one of South Africa’s most prominent young composers. Invested in the worlds of concert, chamber and theatre music, Bezuidenhout’s musical voice has come to be recognizable as truly unique and innovative. He has received composition accolades from the Tri-Arts Music Foundation, The Stevans Grove International Composition Competition and the European Academy of Choral Conductors. He is regularly commissioned locally as well as internationally to write works for ensembles ranging from instrumental chamber groups to festival choirs. His works have been performed as widely as in Washington, Graz, Munich, Hanover, Bratislava, Istanbul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and by the Choir of the Music Conservatory in the Canary Islands to great acclaim.
